My Baby

How babies Hear the World?

Unlike the adult brain, which can filter through the sounds to focus on those we want to hear, babies listen to all the sound frequencies simultaneously.

"Babies have a different way of viewing the world," says Dr. Lynne Werner, Ph.D., Washington University speech and hearing science. "Adults usually hear in a narrow band of sound, while babies seem to use a different approach.
They do not have selective attention of adults and they do not pay attention all the time. Instead, they always seem to be listening or broadband at all frequencies simultaneously. '

This means that babies react to unexpected sounds, often surprising violently to sudden noises. It also makes the noise that our society is accustomed to difficult for babies. Says Dr. Werner, "If you talk to a baby or reading his history, background noise can be a problem. Turn the television or radio."
